Welcome to our new article series, focusing on the incredible lineup of ABC Australia’s Children’s programming in the 1990s, this one is focusing on 1995.
January 1995
Sundays on the ABC see’s the animated series Blinky Bill, Philbert The Frog, Woof and Bangers and Mash, The Dreamstone, Ship To Shore and Rubbish King Of The Jumble. Currently the hosts of Couch Potato are off.








Weekday mornings, there are no cartoons on the ABC in 1995; however, kids’ programming starts at 8.30am and includes Sesame Street, Bananas in Pajamas, Play School, See How They Grow, Completely Mental Misadventures of Ed Grimley, Wild and Crazy Kids, The Greedysaurus Gang, Danger Mouse Vidiot and Byker Grove.







Weekday January 95 afternoons on the ABC consisted of Sesame Street at 3.00pm, Thomas The Tank Engine at 3.55pm, Play School at 4pm, Rupert at 4.30pm, Teddy Trucks or Paddington Bear at 4.55pm, Twins Of Destiny at 5pm, Henrys Cat or Banana Man at 5.25pm, The Adventures of Tin Tin or Press Gang (Fridays) at 5.30pm. Press Gang is shown on Fridays for the entire year.








Weekday 95 January Saturday Afternoons consist of repeats of Round The Twist and new episodes of Escape From Jupiter.


February 1995
The weekday morning line up mostly remains the same in February 1995, however Toucan Tec’s joins the line up in the weekday mornings, aswell as Whistle For Willy.


Repeats of Captain Planet enter the afternoon lineup from 5pm onwards, starting the second week of February 1995.

A new series of Lift Off also premiers on Friday 16th of Febuary, and is the final season of the iconic children’s tv show.


March 1995
March 1995 see’s Couch Potato resume on the ABC, presenting its ABC Kids line up on Saturday Mornings. It is hosted by Grant Piro.

For the Weekdays in March, there a new kids shows. Rat A Tat Tat is shown at 10, Mathica’s Mathshop at 10.15 and Animal Life at 10.45. BTN also returns back to the Weekday line up at 11.30am. The Magic Library also joins the morning weekday line up in late March 1995.


March 1995 also see’s SuperTed repeats join the weekday line up at 5.25pm, and Victor and Hugo and 5.30pm
The second season of The Ferals debuts on the 20th of March, replacing Captain Planet on Mondays only. New episodes continue of The Ferals continue until July.




April 1995
The TV line up does not change much during April 1995. Blinky and Paddington both enter rotation again, The Ferals continues on Mondays only, with Captain Planet for the rest of the week. Repeats of the classic Tbag join the Weekday morning line up along side Grim Tales, Sea Dragon, Buddy and Bangers and Mash. Sadly, by April, there is no afternoon Saturday kids programming.






May 1995
May see’s one of Couch Potato’s shows change to Ghostwriter, which joins Bananaman and The Dreamstone.


Weekday daytime programing now includes The Magic Libary, You Can Write Anything, Tales From The Blue Crystal all joining the regular line up of Sesame Street, Play School and Banana’s in Pyjamas.
May see’s a new series of What A Mess start in the 4.50 timeslot before Captain Planet. New episodes of The Raggy Dolls, and repeats of Johnson and Friends also join the afternoon May 1995 line up. Repeats of Where’s Wally also go into the 5.30pm slot. Mr Squiggle also returns in the afternoon preschool slow. The 5.25 5 minutes slot also shows repeats of Henrys Cat in May 1995 after a few weeks of What A Mess.






In late May 1995, Noddys Toylands Adventures joins the ABC line up at 4.40pm , then Postman Pat at 4.50pm. Brum also makes an appearance in these timeslots. New episodes of Vidiot are also show in late May at 5.30pm




June 1995
June 1995 sees repeats of Madeline enter into rotation in the afternoon school slot at 4.30pm, followed by Teddy Trucks at 4.55pm. Philbert The Frog replaces Teddy Trucks towards the end of June 1995.




July 1995
Repeats of Degrassi Junior High join the ABC kids programing lineup in July 1995, replacing the tv news show TVTV at 6pm. Bangers and Mash repeats also make a return replacing Philbert in the 4.55pm lost.


The July 1995 also sees Budgie The Helicopter, a weird clay motion show called Truckers


July 1995 also see’s another Nickelodeon tv show to join the ABC line up, (after Rugrats in 1994) a true modern cartoon that is slightly edgier than it’s normal stuff, and Rocko’s Modern Life is shown on ABC public tv from mid July 1995 in the 5.30pm timeslot. Ferals is now repeated daily too, and is not exclusive to Mondays.


August 1995
Ferryboat Fred joins the preschool weekday line up in August 1995.

Repeats of Joshua Jones and Tumbledown Farm join the after-school kids’ ABC lineup.



Repeats of Lift Off now appear on Couch Potato on Saturdays in August 1995. Wisdom of Gnomes and Are You Afraid of The Dark (another Nickelodeon show) also now show after Couch Potato on Saturdays.



The Busy World of Richard Scary also joins the ABC Afternoon School line up in August 1995.

September 1995
September see’s Widget The World Watcher repeated in the 5pm timeslot, replacing The Ferals that was showing for the last couple of months.

Rocko’s Modern Life finishes up in September 1995, and is replaced with Avenger Penguins.


By late September 1995, 60s tv show Roger Ramjet is also being repeated in the 5.55pm timeslot, and Twins of Destiny now replaces Degrassi Junior High.


October 1995
October see’s Ship To Shore appear on Couch Potato again on Saturdays. It also sees the premiere of a new show after Couch Potato, Legends of Treasure Island.

Old Bear Stories, Mumfie, Spot and new episodes of FireMan Sam join the afternoon children’s line up.





October 1995 sees repeats of Nickelodeon’s iconic Rugrats show, which was originally shown in 1994 on ABC. The Wizard and The Tomten also join the afternoon kids’ weekday lineup.


November 1995
November 1995 sees’s Library and The Real Story Of Baa Baa Black Sheep, Katies & Orbie join the afternoon ABC lineup.



December 1995
The lineup closely follows the previous months of the ABC.

The Legend of White Fang joins the ABC line up. So does Windfalls.


To finish up the year, the ABC (like most stations) would do a Christmas Day special, and this was the Christmas 1995 line up.
